hi guy's ... I needed some quick g-code visualisation so I took the source from here discussed on builders blog here ... In order to modify the source (very easy) you need Processing IDE that will generate the java app and the executables... if not, just run the exe or shell or app (win/linux/osx binaries that are included in the attached zip)...

anyhow, the attached zip contain some changes from the original

1. it start with dialog so you can select your gcode/bfb file
2. it allow zoom in/out using + and - keys
3. you can use mouse to drag rotate the object (click in window and move mouse)

but the most important change from the original is that movement when extruder is off is not displayed (check attached pictures of the same object)

the app is not "that" usable as for large objects - it is slow as hell .. but for small ones it's cool

Bogdan, that is awesome.  I like to see novel applications that showcase some of the cool things that are possible with Processing.

I´d like to see such cool renderings at thingiverse. Wink
Often seeing the inside or the other side of an objects helps a lot.

williamjturkel, I just modified someone's else's application. the link to original is in the first post. I have added the ability to rotate with mouse, zoom in/out and I removed the excess lines (the ones head makes with extruder off). I have never heard about "Processing" before this application and I cannot say I have some opinion on it .. it works .. it generates java .. it is packaged well ..

Marcus, you can always download object from thingiverse and look in whatever stl viewer you like

btw. I see that app is downloaded 0 times .. so not really interesting I suppose...

Quote
Processing is an open source programming language and environment for people who want to program images, animation, and interactions.
...

so there should be the source available on http://processing.org/

I use Processing / Wiring in my graduate teaching because most of my students are historians who have never programmed before.  It gives them a nice quick way to get started, provides lots of pretty feedback (which is encouraging) and works on both their laptops and Arduinos.  In the space of a few months they can learn enough to get good results with interactive museum exhibits, tangible interfaces, etc.
